Shopify pricing in Ireland starts at €24 a month and runs to €2,100, but the plan price is the smaller half of the bill. The bigger half is the card fee on every sale, and it’s the number most Irish shop owners never work out before they sign up. This guide has every plan, every fee and the sums, in euro, taken from Shopify’s Irish pricing page on 20 September 2026.
It’s written for someone deciding whether to open a Shopify store in Ireland, or wondering why the monthly bill is higher than the price they remember. Two minutes with the table and the €20 example below will tell you what you’ll actually pay.
How much does Shopify cost in Ireland?
Four plans, priced in euro and shown before VAT. Pay yearly and every plan is 25% cheaper per month.

Three things sit beside those four. POS Pro is an add-on at €79 a month per location for a proper shop counter; the basic point of sale for pop-ups and markets is included in every plan. Agentic is a €0 a month plan for selling inside AI chats, where you “only pay when you make a sale”. And the trial: three days free, then €1 a month for your first three months on any plan.
The Starter plan you may have read about on American reviews isn’t on the Irish pricing page. Shopify’s help centre still lists it, so ask support if all you want is a checkout link for Instagram.
Shopify pricing per month vs per year
The yearly discount is real money once you’re trading.
- Basic costs €384 a year paid monthly or €288 paid yearly. You save €96.
- Grow is €1,104 or €828. You save €276.
- Advanced is €4,608 or €3,468. You save €1,140.
The catch is that yearly is paid up front. Start monthly, use the €1 months to find out whether the shop sells, and switch to yearly once it does.
Shopify fees explained, card rates and transaction fees
Every sale carries a card fee. If you use Shopify Payments, Shopify’s own processor, the rate depends on your plan and on the card. These are the Irish rates, all before VAT.

The last row is the one that catches people. If you take payments through Stripe, PayPal or another processor instead of Shopify Payments, you pay that processor’s fee and Shopify’s transaction fee on top. Shopify’s help centre puts it plainly: “Third-party transaction fees apply on all third-party and alternate payment gateways even when Shopify Payments is activated. However, if you have Shopify Payments activated, then PayPal and manual payments are excluded from third-party transaction fees.” Cash, bank transfer and cash on delivery carry no fee either.
How much does Shopify take from a €20 sale?
On Basic, with an Irish or other European card paid online, Shopify Payments takes 2% of €20, which is 40 cent, plus the 25 cent fixed fee. That’s 65 cent, or 3.25% of the sale. Add VAT at 23% on the fee and it’s 80 cent, 4%, if you can’t reclaim it.
On a €100 sale the same plan takes €2.25, about €2.77 with VAT. On Grow it’s €1.95. The fixed 25 cent is why small baskets are dearer in percentage terms: a €10 sale on Basic gives up 4.5% before VAT, a €100 sale 2.25%.
Now the comparison that decides how you take payments. Run that €100 sale through Stripe instead, on Basic. Stripe’s Irish rate is 1.5% + €0.25, so €1.75, and then Shopify adds its 2% transaction fee, €2. Total €3.75, against €2.25 through Shopify Payments. On Shopify, use Shopify Payments.
Which Shopify plan is worth it?
The plans are priced so that the card fee falls as the subscription rises. You can work out where the upgrade pays for itself.
Grow costs €60 a month more than Basic on monthly billing and cuts the online card rate by 0.3 points. Divide one by the other: you need about €20,000 a month in card sales before the lower rate covers the higher subscription (about €15,000 on yearly billing). Advanced is €292 a month more than Grow for 0.2 points less, which needs roughly €146,000 a month (€110,000 yearly).
So until you’re at those numbers, choose the plan for what it includes, not the fee. Grow’s five staff accounts and its 1% transaction fee are the usual reasons an Irish shop moves up. Advanced earns its price when you sell abroad and want live carrier shipping rates and region-by-region pricing.
Is VAT charged on Shopify in Ireland?
Shopify shows every Irish price before VAT; the card rates say “excl. VAT” on the pricing page. If your business is VAT registered you reclaim the VAT on the subscription and the fees in your return, so the sticker prices are your real cost. The costs that aren’t on the pricing page
The subscription includes more than people expect: hosting, an SSL certificate, unlimited products, email campaigns, abandoned checkout recovery, discount codes, gift cards and 24/7 live chat are ticked on every plan. What it doesn’t include is where the real budget goes.
- Apps. Reviews, bundles, subscriptions, translation, upsells. Most are monthly, and a typical Irish store carries four or five. They’re the reason a “€24 plan” costs €80.
- A theme. Free themes are fine to start. Paid themes are a one-off, and a designer to customise one is a project.
- A domain. Bought separately, renewed yearly.
- Hardware if you sell in person, and POS Pro at €79 a month per shop.
- Getting found. Shopify gives you a shop, not customers. That’s ads, or Shopify SEO, or both.
One thing works the other way. Shopify now pays 1% of your sales back as subscription credits, up to €4,000 on Basic, €6,000 on Grow and €8,000 on Advanced. A store doing €5,000 a month earns €50 a month back, which covers Basic twice over.
What is the downside to Shopify?
Three, honestly. The fees never stop: a WordPress shop with WooCommerce pays for hosting and a developer, not a subscription, and Stripe’s 1.5% + €0.25 with no platform fee on top. The 25 cent fixed fee stings on cheap products. And you’re renting: your store lives on Shopify’s terms, your data exports as spreadsheets, and the apps you rely on can raise their prices whenever they like. Is Shopify still worth it in 2026?
For a product business that wants to be selling this week, yes. Nothing else gets an Irish shop to a working checkout as quickly, the in-person rates are competitive with the card readers we compare in our guide to card payment fees in Ireland, and the €1 months make the test cheap. It’s also where TikTok Shop and the marketplaces plug in with the least fuss.

How much does Shopify really cost?
The plan plus the card fee plus apps. A small Irish store on Basic paying yearly is €24 a month, about €2.25 per €100 of sales, and whatever apps it adds. Budget €60 to €100 a month before ads.

Does Shopify have a free plan?

Monthly plans run month to month. Yearly plans are paid up front, which is why we suggest starting monthly and moving to yearly once the shop is proven.
