What is a SERP?
The search engine results page: everything Google shows for a search, including the ads, the map pack, AI Overviews, featured snippets, videos and the ten blue links.
The search results page used to be ten blue links. It has not looked like that for a long time, and understanding what is on it now changes what “ranking first” is worth.
Depending on the search, the page can carry paid ads at the top, a map pack of local businesses, an AI Overview, a featured snippet, a block of related questions, images, videos, shopping results and only then the ordinary listings. On a phone, the first ordinary result can sit well below the fold.
That is why we look at the actual results page for a search before deciding what to build. If the page is full of map listings, a Google Business Profile matters more than another blog post. If it is full of videos, a written page may struggle whatever its quality. The SERP tells you what Google thinks the searcher wants, and it is the most honest brief you will get.
Search that compounds, run by people who show their work.
Strategy, technical, content, links and local, planned together and reported against the numbers your business cares about.
