What is Google Ads?
Google's advertising platform: search ads above the results, shopping ads with product images, display ads across the web and video ads on YouTube.
Google Ads, known as Google AdWords until 2018, is where businesses pay to appear across Google’s properties. For most businesses it means one thing above all: search ads, the text ads at the top of the results for the searches you choose.
Search ads are powerful because they meet demand that already exists. Someone searching “emergency electrician Navan” has a problem right now, and an ad that answers it can win the job. The same account can also run Shopping ads with product images and prices, display ads on other websites, and video ads on YouTube, each suited to a different stage of a customer’s thinking.
How much you pay per click is decided by an auction, but not by money alone. Google weighs your bid against your Quality Score, so a more relevant ad can beat a higher bidder. The accounts that waste money are usually the ones left on the default settings, showing for loosely related searches without enough negative keywords to keep them in check. Paid media measured on what it returns, not what it spends.
Google, Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok campaigns built on search terms, creative testing and conversion tracking, not impressions.
