The county priced in euro

A click in County Louth, costed honestly.

Every agency promises careful budgeting and none of them price a click where you actually trade. What follows comes from Google itself, for this county, with our bands underneath.

  • Middle price of a click in this county

    €1.47

Measured over every Louth trade Google carries a figure for. A roofer click costs €2.66 and a mortgage broker click €20.34.

  • Where an ad budget starts here

    €800 a month

Somewhere near 545 clicks at that midpoint, and that is plenty to steer an account on rather than guess at it.

  • Our fee for running it

    From €450 a month + VAT

A lone channel beneath €2,500 monthly is €450. Widen to three channels and €950 runs the account from €2,500 of spend up to €6,000. Higher and it becomes 15% of whatever goes through, €1,200 being where it bottoms out, with the €495 to open lifted.

Spend and fee are two bills and we never merge them. Why one trade costs several times another to advertise has a page of its own, how much Google Ads costs in Ireland, taking every county together.

Inside a County Louth campaign, band for band.

The same work goes into a small account as a large one. Anything that would earn nothing in your line of business is taken out instead of billed quietly.

The audit first

The shape of the campaigns, where the keywords sit, conversions weighed against cost, where the ads land, and quality score set against impressions so the dear terms stop hiding.

A rebuild, not a tidy up

The campaigns come apart and go back together around the jobs you want work on, inside your own account and on your own billing.

Exact and phrase match

Narrow on purpose, because a thin market has no spare budget for Google guessing at what you meant. The negative list starts before launch and lengthens weekly.

The rooms beyond the search auction

Microsoft for cheaper search clicks, Facebook and Instagram for the hotel and restaurant trade, LinkedIn for a buyer with a job title and TikTok for a young one.

Shopping once there is a feed

Performance Max and Shopping earn their place behind a product feed and nowhere else, which in a county of service businesses matters more than it sounds.

Ads that name the place

Dundalk, Ardee, Carlingford or Dunleer inside the ad itself, with the phone number sitting where a thumb reaches, and copy measured against benchmarks instead of opinion.

Landing pages that hold, tracking that proves it

Technical faults cleared and every page asked one question, which is whether somebody can enquire on it. Calls and forms are then tested live, before the first euro goes out.

Remarketing, a dashboard and the figures

In a county this size the people who looked and left are most of the market, so they get followed. Live figures sit open, and the review call comes weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Search has a slow lane and a fast one. Paid search is the fast one, and in this county it costs less to enter than most people are told.

A Google Ads Louth account has one real advantage and one real constraint. The advantage is the price. The middle click here, measured across every trade Google prices in the county, is €1.47, which stretches a small budget a long way. The constraint is volume. The searches are thin, so there is nothing to absorb waste, and waste is what most of the accounts handed to us are made of.

We put the account back together so every euro lands on a search somebody nearby is making with money in their hand. Tracking first, campaigns second, and a pass through the search terms every week after that. What arrives monthly is the enquiry count, the price of each and the wording that brought it in, assembled by the same people who built the account in the first place.

  1. Why a small county punishes a badly built account

County Louth is a small search market and that cuts both ways. A click is cheap. There are not many of them. So an account wasting a third of its budget in a big market merely underperforms, and the same account here spends the whole month buying nothing at all.

Broad match is the usual culprit. Bid on plumber and Google puts plumbing courses, plumber salary and plumbing supplies into the auction on your behalf. A plumber click costs €2.70 and there are about 50 plumber searches a month to be had. Spend forty of those on the wrong people and the month is finished.

Location targeting is the next one. Left at Google’s default it collects anybody the system believes might care about the area, rather than the people actually standing in it, which for a county threaded by the motorway means a lot of paid attention from drivers on their way elsewhere. Nobody in the account changed it because nobody opened the account.

Bubblehub astronauts studying search data on a monitor in a purple-lit office

Then there is the tracking, or the absence of it. An account counting a visit to the contact page as a conversion will tell you the campaign is working while the phone sits quiet. Until a click can be followed to an enquiry, nothing done in that account can be defended with anything except a chart.

Which is why an account that already exists gets measured before it gets altered. The shape of the campaigns, how the keywords sit across them, how much a conversion cost measured next to the price of a click, and how far up the page the ads show. The figure that changes minds is quality score set against impressions, because in a market this thin a poor score on whichever keywords carry the traffic costs real money daily, and hardly an owner alive has been shown that column.

And if you have never run ads at all, the reason around here is usually that somebody quoted a retainer without ever saying what a click costs in Ardee. Sold like that it sounds like money thrown at a wall, because described like that it is.

  2. What changes in a Google Ads Louth account once it is opened every week

Take the result first. Somebody in Dundalk or Blackrock searches for what you do, and yours is the name at the very top with a number beside it, so they ring you. Come the end of the month there is a figure for how many rang, what each one cost, and which search sent them.

Ahead of all that the site is examined twice over, once for the technical faults that cost you a click and once for what each landing page does with the visitor when they get there, since a thin market gives no second chance at a click already bought. The trade is costed in the same fortnight. Who else is in the auction, the honest monthly volumes, what a set budget would buy at those prices, and a proposal on paper to accept or refuse.

The build is deliberately narrow, because the county is. Keywords go in on exact and phrase. Each job takes its own group of ads. The negatives are drafted before anything goes live, with apprenticeship, training, wages, free and do it yourself already on the list, and every week adds more from what people really typed.

A Bubblehub astronaut pointing at a Google Ads overview graph, "Paid media that performs" on the laptop

Then the budget is aimed. Hotels are searched 480 times a month here at €0.51 a click. Restaurants 260 at €0.18. A wedding venue click is €0.96 on 260 searches. Those are volume terms where a wide net still pays. A skip hire click at €3.26 on 110 searches is a different account entirely, and running both under one campaign is how the cheap clicks eat the expensive ones’ budget before the middle of the month.

Tracking is finished and tested on a genuine enquiry before the account is permitted to spend, calls as well as forms. After that the rhythm is weekly rather than monthly, because in a market this size a fortnight of drift is a fortnight of the budget. Terms read. Waste cut. Money pushed behind whichever groups are producing calls. Ads drafted against benchmarks and reworked until they say what the page says, since Google prices that fit and a tighter fit buys the same slot for less.

Shopping and Performance Max are for a retailer with a feed to hand, and nowhere else. Remarketing counts for more here than in a big market, with the audiences separated by how far into the site somebody got before leaving, because when fifty people a month look for what you do, the ones who looked and left are most of your market rather than a slice of it.

Google is not the only auction open to a business in this county, and in a market this thin the extra rooms matter. A click on Microsoft costs less again and the campaigns mirror across in an afternoon. Facebook and Instagram reach the people who were never going to type it at all, which on the Cooley side, for a hotel or a restaurant or a wedding venue, is most of them. A job title as the buyer points at LinkedIn. A young customer points at TikTok. Selling already on Amazon points there. Wanting to be heard rather than read points at Spotify. Email and SMS automation then earn from a list you have already paid to build.

  3. Why a Louth business lets us near the account

Our head office is in this county and the meeting room is on Clanbrassil Street in Dundalk. When something goes wrong with an account you are not typing into a support form aimed two hundred miles away. You are walking in and reading the screen beside the person who built it.

Google has recognised us as a Partner since 2013. That recognition is handed out and taken back by Google, never claimed by the agency, so it is the one line in an advertising pitch that stands up before any trust has been extended. Shopify lists us as a Partner for the retail side, Meta as a Business Partner for the paid social, and LinkedIn holds our certification. All of those are awarded by the platform on the same terms.

A Bubblehub astronaut presenting a strategy on the office screen while colleagues work at their desks

The fee is in public before the first call. Each month brings a total of enquiries with the exact search that produced each one set beside it, because a top slot has never paid a supplier. Everything a client says about us was written by them on Google, in public, under their own trading name.

Planning the campaign and working it week to week are the same job. Nothing is handed over once the work begins, so the thinking and the doing stay in one head.

  4. Two bills, one account, and the account is yours

The report is what most agencies keep vague, so start there. Yours gives the enquiries with calls and forms kept apart, a price on each, the search and the ad responsible, and everything altered since last time with the reasoning attached. Live figures cover the days between reports, and how often we sit over them, week by week, fortnight by fortnight or month by month, is decided by how big the account has grown. Average click price and impression share go underneath, where they explain the rest instead of standing in for it.

Two invoices leave the business each month and they never meet. Google bills you for the clicks. We bill for the labour. No handling charge sits on top of Google’s figure, so what Google takes is exactly what Google shows you, and the record of it stays inside an account you can open yourself.

Our own charge is published in bands. Most accounts in this county sit in the first one and stay there quite happily, because the searches available here do not demand a bigger budget, and we will say so rather than talk you up a step you have no use for. Where a business does grow past one channel, the price rises to match the extra auctions being read every week, and the figure for that is written down in advance instead of being negotiated after the fact.

Bubblehub astronauts working through Google Ads search terms and conversions, "Better search, higher conversions" on the wall

A Louth account is run here, in this county, by our own team. The same people who price the clicks build the campaigns, write the ads, sit with the spend week to week and produce the report, all of it from the office up the road. That is exactly why you can walk in and have the account opened on a screen in front of you. It carries your name and it lives on our desks.

Your name is on the account and your card is behind it, permanently. Stop, and the campaigns, the tracking history and a negative list built over a year all remain in your hands. Nothing gets withheld to make walking away harder, and being ten minutes up the road makes that easier to say out loud.

A campaign that stops earning gets turned off and the reason opens the report. We would sooner tell a business here to cut back for a quarter than watch a budget roll on from habit.

  5. Ads today, and the slower half of search underneath

Advertising holds the top of the page for exactly as long as the card works. Switch it off and you disappear the same afternoon. The unpaid side takes months to climb and then stays there without anything being charged for it. Neither one stands in for the other, and most businesses here want both in the end.

There is now a written answer above the lot of it. Google composes a few sentences before any link appears and puts company names into them, and the same names come out of a chatbot asked the same question. Money cannot buy a place in it. The slow half of search is what puts a name in there, so a business doing only the fast half never features.

Ads first with the slow work underneath suits most businesses around here. Four weeks of spending tells you which of your trade’s searches genuinely end in an enquiry, and it would take two quarters to learn the same thing the slow way. The writing then follows those searches, and the paid budget steps back from whatever starts carrying itself.

Three things argue against advertising. A page that cannot take an enquiry does not deserve traffic you paid for, since the paid traffic only widens the leak. A margin with no room in it for the click price, and a mortgage broker click in this county is €20.34. And nobody there to pick up while the ads are live, in which case the schedule should be cut back to the hours somebody is.

You hear which of the three applies before the price is quoted. That is a cheaper conversation today than it is in twelve months.

  6. The Louth trades where paid search earns its keep

The county’s numbers are modest and they are honest. Hotels take 480 searches a month at €0.51 a click, restaurants 260 at €0.18, wedding venues 260 at €0.96, massage 140 at €0.61 and skip hire 110 at €3.26. A driving school click is €0.38 on 40 searches and car sales €0.24 on 90.

At eighteen cent a click a restaurant in this county has the cheapest advertising going and almost nobody is running it. Two hundred and sixty searches is no flood, but each one is a person choosing where to eat that evening, and a full month of those clicks comes in under the cost of a single night’s staff. A hotel at €0.51 is mainly bidding so that the booking sites cannot sell its own name back to it.

The trade businesses sit in the middle. A plumber click is €2.70, a roofer €2.66, an estate agent €1.37 and a car hire firm €0.93. These are short lists of searches with a real job at the end of each one, so the ad has to name the town, carry the number, and land on a page about that single job rather than about the whole business.

The money in this county sits at the top end and the lists are very short. A mortgage broker pays €20.34 for a click on about 10 searches a month. Pest control €12.61. A financial advisor €10.06, an insulation contractor €8.19, an architect €7.16, a windows and doors firm €6.34, a solar installer €6.20 and a carpet cleaner €5.51. Ten searches a month reads like nothing until somebody prices what one mortgage client is worth across the term of the loan. Accounts like that are tiny, exact and read every week, and they are where a careless agency does the most harm.

Plenty of businesses should not bother. If nobody types your product into a search box, put the budget elsewhere. Beneath about three hundred euro a month there is nothing there for anybody to read, so put that money into reviews and a complete profile instead. And a pharmacy, which Google gives no click price for in this county at all, is served better by the map than by any auction.

How the first quarter goes in this county.

Not a euro is spent until the tracking stands up and the money has somewhere useful to go.

  1. 01

    Week one, the pricing

What a click costs in your own trade here, who is already bidding against you, what a single enquiry is worth to the business, and a proposal drawn from all three.

  2. 02

    Week two, putting it together

Structure, groups, ads and negatives built into your own account, the landing page seen to, and the tracking proved with a live call and a live form.

  3. 03

Weeks three to six, the weeding

The search terms report gets gone through weekly and the waste cut out of it, with money pushed behind whichever groups are ringing the phone.

  4. 04

Weeks seven to twelve, the verdict

What earns gets more, what does not is stopped, another channel opens where the figures justify one, and the quarter finishes on a cost per enquiry worth planning a year around.

Louth questions we get before the first euro is spent

What is the full cost of this in County Louth?

There are two numbers and they are never added together. The first is what Google charges for clicks, and this county is cheap by national standards, €1.47 in the middle, €0.18 for a restaurant and €20.34 for a mortgage broker. The second is ours, in three published bands. A lone channel beneath €2,500 monthly costs €450 to run. Widen to three channels and €950 runs the account from €2,500 of spend up to €6,000. Higher and the fee becomes 15% of whatever goes through the account, €1,200 being where it bottoms out. Opening an account is a single €495, and that is lifted at the top band. Not a cent of ours rides on the Google invoice. VAT is charged on top of every band.

How much should we start with?

Around €800 of ad spend a month. At the county midpoint that is roughly 545 clicks, which is enough for the account to be driven rather than guessed at. Under two hundred euro there is too little happening to read. Where the clicks run dear, an architect is €7.16 here, the answer is narrower targeting rather than a bigger figure.

Is search all you run, or the other channels too?

Search is the obvious start where a click is this cheap, and it is a small pool, so most accounts here end up wanting a second room to sell in. Microsoft adds reach for less money again. Paid social on Facebook and Instagram creates demand the auction never sees, which is how a hotel or a restaurant fills a quiet Tuesday. LinkedIn is for a buyer with a job title, TikTok or Snapchat for a young one. Amazon suits whoever sells there already, Spotify whoever would sooner be heard. A product feed has to exist before Performance Max or Shopping are worth switching on, and email and SMS automation then work a list you own outright.

How quickly does it turn into calls?

Live within days, first enquiries usually inside a fortnight. The opening three weeks settle nothing, as the account is still sorting the searches that convert from the ones that drain. The real verdict comes at ninety days, on what an enquiry cost.

We are out at Carlingford. Is that a disadvantage?

On price it helps. Fewer advertisers bid on the Cooley side, so an identical click costs less, and an ad naming Carlingford or Omeath is answered more often than one naming the county. What changes is the radius, drawn around where you will actually travel instead of around the whole county.

Can we come in and see the account?

Yes, and people do. The head office is here and the meeting room is on Clanbrassil Street in Dundalk, so the account can be opened on the screen in front of you and you can read the search terms yourself. Whoever sits down with you is whoever runs the campaign afterwards, so the screen you are looking at is worked by the people in the room.
